U.K. Preschool Proposes Wind Turbine, Solar Panel Installation

Local British newspaper the Whitehaven News recently reported that the head teacher at St. Gregory and St. Patrick's preschool in Whitehaven has announced plans to install a 15-meter-tall wind turbine and solar panels on school grounds.

"It is the desire of children, teachers and parents to become a carbon neutral school, helping to save the environment and reduce [carbon dioxide] emissions," said head teacher Anthony Dwyer. "It's an exciting proposal with huge educational benefits."

According to the paper, the school hopes to submit a wind turbine planning application to the Copeland Council by the end of the month; no application is necessary for solar panel installation.

The Whitehaven News said Dwyer pointed out that the 20,000 pound (approximately $36,000) turbine would be funded completely through federal grants.
