Sharp Opens New Solar Panel Manufacturing Plant in TN

Sharp Corporation and its U.S. sales and marketing subsidiary Sharp Electronics Corporation recently announced the official opening of a new solar panel manufacturing facility in Memphis, TN.

According to Sharp Corporation, the new facility uses mono- and poly-crystalline solar cells the company produced in Japan, and U.S.-made glass frames, backing and other materials, to assemble 165-, 167- and 185-watt solar panels for residential and commercial installations in the U.S. Sharp said the current annual production capacity at the new plant is 20 megawatts, "with room to expand production in response to growing demand."

"Amid increasing environmental concerns, the clean, renewable energy provided by solar technology holds much promise for the future," said Sharp Corporation official Toshishige Hamano. "With our accumulated knowledge and experience in the energy creation industry, Sharp is uniquely positioned to expand the market for solar in the U.S. and elsewhere just as we have done in Japan."
